The explorations of having one eye. This week alone... I fell trying to get into the gondola, punched my face with my ski pole and then today I somersaulted in the snow while locking on my bindings. Creating and managing the mind. Exercise is the best medicine regardless if I'm slow and unsteady. I'm having fun and enjoying all that I have in life.

The best gift ever! I haven't stopped wearing this jacket for the past month. Everyday! Skiing, walking the dog or hanging with friends at the coffee shop. All day long I wear this jacket. Everything about this jacket fits my needs in owning the perfect Wool Aire Hoody. http://shop.ibex.com/Apparel/Womens-Vests-Jackets/W-Wool-Aire-Hoody One of my goals this past week was to try something new everyday! It can be anything. I'd encourage us all to try it and please share what you do.
Monday: Enjoyed a new drink. Synergy Raspberry Chia Kombucha. Tasty treat. Tuesday: 75 minute Power Vinyasa class. Temps hovering over 90 degrees in the studio my breath was moving rapidly with a powerful yoga practice. I enjoyed this very much even with the dizziness I stayed focused with my breath. I had a lot of fun. Wednesday: Studied for my EMR exam. Which is REALLY out of my comfort zone... studying. OH and I boiled water and made dinner which included gluten free pasta and organic marinara sauce. Thursday: Glögg. One of our guests for Thanksgiving brought Glögg it's a Swedish drink that's taste like Christmas. Glögg is a spiced sugared and simmered (or “mulled”) red wine. In Sweden this is a beverage consumed almost exclusively during the Christmas season, usually with raisins and blanched almonds added. Glögg was served in a special little mug with a handle. Thank you for sharing your traditions. Friday: Hiking while chewing gum. Pure task for me. Saturday: Went to a Christmas tree lighting. Sometimes I'm such a "Bah humbug" Sunday: New hat is big enough to cover my eye. This is totally comfortable. I seriously feel really good after visiting with my ortho and neuro doctors yesterday. Besides still having the skull fracture the neuro doc gave me the okay to mountain bike again. Dr. House said it'll be another 6 weeks before the fracture is healed but all the bleeding in the brain is gone now. Loved the news. The ortho doctor Dr. Kubiak is hilarious and his side kick Shannon are so much fun and always have positive energy for me when I visit. I had an x-ray on the clavicle and the bone is healed and I can get back to doing hand stands on the Stand Up Paddle Boards. Okay maybe next summer. After the morning spent with doctors Andy and I rushed home so we could go mountain biking. I had my new Moots kit ready to go for my first ride back on dirt. Then after my ride I went to physical therapy and enjoyed my session knowing that this is all helping and I'm excited to see it all come together. We've been working on my vertigo, blinking my eye, smiling and wrinkling my nose. I know this will be the longest road dealing with the paralysis but I don't care right now because I'm riding again and happy about the life I have. Thank you all for the positive energy everyone.
I am happy and thankful I am alive but right now I am dealing with the 5 week blues. This has been a hard week. The feeling that the race season is over and I have to wait until next spring to race again. I think my patience is running thin now and I guess I'm tired of
sounding like a broken record in telling people what's wrong with me. My story everyday gets shorter and by tomorrow it maybe I have turned into a pirate and sailing off to sea. There I said it! I'm sailing away :O) I have been doing well with physical therapy but I feel like I'm not seeing the improvement I was hoping for in 5 weeks. The clavicle is doing great and can finally sleep on my left shoulder. The paralysis is annoying me now more then ever that we went out to dinner and I wanted to drink out of a glass without a straw and ended up wearing half of the liquid. I have to chew with a napkin over my mouth because otherwise I'd wear that too. The ear is still humming and sounds like I spent the day swimming in the ocean, I'm still taping my eye closed and using eye drops all day because I can't blink or still have no moisture in my eye. The left jaw is doing better because now I can easily eat chips and salsa! My favorite. The BPPV (vertigo) is sporadic that getting up too quickly or laying down my eyes black out and get dizzy for no more then 30 seconds. Alright enough about the pity party (as my dad would say to me as a kid) I did have a great 2 days with Andy. He helped me out with www.paddleparkcity.com and taught a couple lessons at Jordanelle while I sat on the dock and took photos. We went for a easy ride and took naps. It was so nice to be with him and plan our shoulder season adventures. Here's to working on my patience and knowing that again I will smile, blink and hear again.
This past Tuesday Andy and I went to the Mid-Week MTB Race Series at Solitude. This was my first race to attend since post accident. This series meant a lot to me this year because I had done 8 out of the 12 races. The last 4 races were post accident and obviously I can't race yet so instead I went to cheer on my local mountain bike friends. Seriously Andy is the best... he did the half smile for me so I look semi normal in a photo.
Yesterday I volunteered at registration for the Park City Point 2 Point. It was nice to hang out with friends and to see everyone. I even was able to catch up with my old Jackson friends... so much care and support. It feels pretty awesome knowing you all. It was really nice to be a part of P2P still even if it was working registration :O) Follow up appointment with Dr. Kubiak and Shannon Bonneli post clavicle surgery went really well. They showed me my glued stitches and told me I have no restrictions... just don't crash or go fast. So that night we rode the communter bikes from home to Tarahumara for dinner (block away) loved it and felt great to be out riding. So now that I have no restrictions Andy and I decided to take the Stand Up Paddle Boards www.paddleparkcity.com out to Jordanelle Rock Cliff. Other then the vertigo pestering me the shoulder felt great. Until the next day I started to get horrible sharp pains in my clavicle, felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife... guess I over did it SUP'ing. Thank you Andy for helping me out, it was great therapy to be out on the water again. Cora is one hot dog! We walked Memorial Hill today and got so hot I took my t-shirt off. Which modest Jill never does. I must have damaged the modest part of my brain from the accident. I like this photo because Cora's head is blocking all the paralysis. Yesterday I had seen the ENT doctor and it went great. I still have paralysis on the left side of my face, vertigo (dizziness) but was happy to see how well I am doing. I have a nice scab on my eardrum and once that is gone will know if I have dislocated my eardrum and if my hearing will come back. I will see him in another 30 days. This picture was taken 3 weeks ago and as you can see recovery is happening daily. I love the way my body is healing.
Thank you all for the caring support everyday!!! |
