The Round Valley Round Up takes place normally in January however with the lack of snow in Park City this year Mountain Trails Foundation postponed the race to March 10th. In the coming week temps were in the 50's and sunny and the trail was disappearing fast. The day before the race MTF was out shoveling snow and repairing the bare spots. Great job for making the race happen. Andy and I have completed our first skate ski race ever... with a mere short year of skating we decided its time to go out and see what it's all about. The start was at 10:15a and already 40degrees/sunny I decided I needed some water right before the race. Andy so kind ran back to the car and as he's running back they are shouting 3-2-1 GOOOOOO! Crap, were in the back of the pack and not even in his bindings. (Oh, I didn't get my water either) HA! We started out totally flustered but we were able to pass some peeps on the hill. Not many though. I was always able to keep 2 racers in sight that were my rabbit. Nicely enough there were 4 aid stations with water so I'd take a swig at each and keep moving. I only consumed 1 GU gel for the entire race. It's tough to eat, drink and skate all at the same time. Not sure how it's done but it was still fun to try. I really enjoyed the event and thought it was marked well and they did a great job for the conditions that we were given. I did rally to take 3rd place in 30-39 age group and Andy got 6th in 30-39 age group. What a great surprise! Thank you Moots Cycles! I just got home from a 2 hour road ride and absolutely love my new bike bib shorts. I'm looking forward to putting lots of miles in my new shorts. Headed to Woodside, Cali and Moab yet this month... lots of great riding ahead.
After a much needed break from racing I took last year off and "played". I love to just go out and ride and backpack all summer but I REALLY miss racing. A short month ago I decided I want to RACE!!! I love the support from my husband, Moots, GU Energy, Ibex, Maui Jim and Wobble-Naught. THANK YOU for always believing in me. With that being said I still love to camp, backpack, hike with my doggy and ride. I'm changing things up this year and doing the mid-week race series, XC races and 2 endurance races. That's it... no more long slogging miles on the bike. Which I still can do but won't be counted as training :o) I geared up and headed to St. George for my first race this season on Friday. I decided to race expert considering my lack of training and boy did I make the right decision. I ended up in 4th place and 6 minutes behind 1st. So, I can say I'm in the right category... for now ;O) I did everything right... slept well, enjoyed some great dinner in Ivine... I'm just slow. It'll come back... it's only March right?!?!
