Andy and I have completed our first skate ski race ever... with a mere short year of skating we decided its time to go out and see what it's all about. The start was at 10:15a and already 40degrees/sunny I decided I needed some water right before the race. Andy so kind ran back to the car and as he's running back they are shouting 3-2-1 GOOOOOO! Crap, were in the back of the pack and not even in his bindings. (Oh, I didn't get my water either) HA! We started out totally flustered but we were able to pass some peeps on the hill. Not many though. I was always able to keep 2 racers in sight that were my rabbit. Nicely enough there were 4 aid stations with water so I'd take a swig at each and keep moving. I only consumed 1 GU gel for the entire race. It's tough to eat, drink and skate all at the same time. Not sure how it's done but it was still fun to try. I really enjoyed the event and thought it was marked well and they did a great job for the conditions that we were given. I did rally to take 3rd place in 30-39 age group and Andy got 6th in 30-39 age group.
The Round Valley Round Up takes place normally in January however with the lack of snow in Park City this year Mountain Trails Foundation postponed the race to March 10th. In the coming week temps were in the 50's and sunny and the trail was disappearing fast. The day before the race MTF was out shoveling snow and repairing the bare spots. Great job for making the race happen. Andy and I have completed our first skate ski race ever... with a mere short year of skating we decided its time to go out and see what it's all about. I just got home from a 2 hour road ride and absolutely love my new bike bib shorts. I'm looking forward to putting lots of miles in my new shorts. Headed to Woodside, Cali and Moab yet this month... lots of great riding ahead.
